VANCOUVER ISLAND

I have decided that it is time to give up the social apps and go back to the basics. I had a Myspace (beauty__dies) back before it was cool where you had to code in any images and use a third party photo website (shout-out photobucket) to add any kind of imagery. I often think about how if I continued on the path of learning code my life would have turned out quite different but that's a whole different story so moving on....

Welcome to my blog! I plan to post images of adventures, things that inspire me, paintings/projects I am working on and even some call to actions since we are living in bat shit bananas times. Which also reminds me, there will be cussing and for that I do not apologize. Okay, enough of the introduction here goes my first post, thanks for being here, and please remember I am not a writer or a bot, just a painter going thru life trying to inspire and entertain you (and maybe even sometimes sell you something you like).

"Being Present" (but not really cause I am actually taking a selfie on a timer ha!)

This last week my kiddos had school off so we packed up our trusty car and headed for Vancouver Island. We live on Orcas Island which means it's two ferries and a boarder crossing to get there but always worth it. We landed in Victoria where we did all the city things (we absolutely loved the Royal BC Museum !!) then pushed off for the rugged west coast. We wanted to do a hike at China Beach but it was closed due to (we assume) trees falling in the windstorm from the day before so we settled on Sandcut Beach. Hot damn it was rad. My kids are 4 and 7 which means getting them to do any activities, especially hiking, is like negotiating with a 4 and 7 year old. With many gummies (not the kind you're thinking though I do fully support them) we made it to the beach where they spent hours playing in the driftwood and a shelter someone else had previously erected. I spent my time on that treasure beach being insanely inspired and taking a bajillion photos that I will likely use for my next series. There is something about being on a cold, rugged rocky beach that really brings me to the present. It's windy, it's cold, it's loud and that salty smell as you carefully walk across the rocky terrain-you really can't help but have nearly all your senses simultaneously stimulated. It's really the only place these days where my entire family roams free without any conflict. It's also a wonderful place for reflection since as we all know, nature "brings us back to our roots".

p.s. what do you think it means that as I was writing this post to get you outside a bird flew into my window startling the hell out of me and likely concussion itself :( Send all the thoughts for this little friend
